Braces are not just for kids anymore! With more and more adults seeking orthodontic treatment, braces have gotten a grown-up make-over with Invisalign®. Invisalign is a discreet, convenient way to straighten your teeth, metal free. These clear braces are removable, easy to clean, and will straighten your teeth into a beautiful smile. Invisalign can treat a number of conditions, like crowded teeth, crooked teeth, various bite misalignments, and gapped teeth, and are discreet enough that both teen and professional adults can take advantage of this treatment. Because of this, Dr. Danielle Wehle is proud to offer her patients Invisalign in Santa Clara, CA.
Once Dr. Wehle approves you for being a candidate for Invisalign you will have impressions and x-rays taken of your mouth. A 3-D image is generated and a series of clear plastic aligners are fabricated that are designed to slowly shift your teeth, little by little, into a beautifully straight smile! Invisalign aligners are worn day and night taking them out when you eat and brush your teeth. You should usually receive a new set of aligners every two weeks and the average treatment length is about one year. Because the custom-made aligners are created all at one time patients are usually sent home with several sets to change out, cutting their appointments with Dr. Wehle in half! Traditional braces require visits to the dentist every three to four weeks. Not with Invisalign!
Traditional braces can come with painful mouth sores, a mouth full of metal, tooth decay, tooth discoloration, puffy gums, and a restricted diet. Benefits of Invisalign include:
Invisalign is orthodontic treatment without the braces. With Invisalign you will receive a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners that are designed to slowly shift your teeth, little by little, into a beautifully straight smile!
The clear aligners are removable so they are easy to clean and it is also easy to brush and floss to maintain excellent oral hygiene throughout your treatment. Since you can remove the aligners when you eat, you can eat whatever you want without having the restrictions of traditional braces. There are no sharp brackets and wires to irritate your mouth.
Dr. Wehle will develop a custom-made treatment plan with aligners that have been made to only move certain teeth at a time. The slightly different aligners that are switched-out every two weeks have been mapped-out to control the forces and timing of your teeth movement.
The aligners may cause a slight lisp for a day or two but soon your tongue will adjust to the new feeling and your speech should return to normal.
The first day or two of wearing a new aligner might come with some pressure and tenderness but this will lessen as your teeth get used to the movement.
You can care for your aligners like you would a retainer or teeth whitening trays. Brush and wash them in lukewarm water.
Dr. Wehle will decide how often you will need to be seen but generally patients can go six to 10 weeks between appointments.
